I find it impossible to paint Glencoe without my mind imaging the 1692 Massacre  There is I think something of that  that seeps into the very surface of these Glencoe studies, it is incidental, or transidential.

Usually within my painting process, in order to make an interesting composition it is necessary to move reality to form a complete or interesting composition, in Brave hearts however this wasn’t necessary and it is somehow important that it could be taken to a certain spot and be seen like for like.

The large bolder rocks in the foreground strangely help frame the mountain range, while the white puddle of the water balances the water filled sky. A subtle dusting of tiny yellow buttercups and soft grass seems to act as a natural remembrance to the battle of  massacre.
